Wait, what? WHAT? Doesn't everyone think the opposite is true?
Hear me out!
"Girls in STEM" has become a brand, a marketing tool. It's become a goal in itself. It's used to sell camps, educational resources, and toys... We've lost sight of WHY we need more girls in STEM.
We need a more diverse set of thinkers to solve complex challenges, to innovate in times of unprecedented change, to promote human-centered design, to support a wide range of perspectives....YES!
With more female engineers, scientists, technicians, technologists, electricians, we stand a chance of getting to this future state. But changing the gender split alone is NOT the goal......
