Four Seasons Cathedral Window Card
How to Create a Cathedral Window Square
Create the beautiful, but easy Cathedral Window Technique in a matter of minutes!
All it takes is card stock, circle punch or die, and a template for easy folding.
Fill each window with squares of pretty designer paper, then add embellishments to complete.
This is a great way to use up paper scraps.
This card measures 8 1/4" x 4 3/8". Too big for a standard A2 envelope. I will give this card in person or include it in a gift package for mailing.
Options: Reduce the number and rearrange the windows to fit a standard card base or slimline card measuring 7 ½” x 8 7/8”, scored at 3 3/4”.
Or, use a smaller sized punch and template to create the windows.
1. Cut a Cathedral Window template measuring 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" out of heavy cardstock or light-weight cardboard.
2. Punch or cut 10-2" circles using a punch or die-cut machine and die out of Basic White card stock. (step 1.)
3. Place the template on a circle, and fold the four edges up to the template. Use a bone folder to get crisp fold lines. Repeat. (steps 2-3.)
4. Remove template (step 4.)
5. Attach DSP to the inside of each window.
6. Now to decorate the windows:
Use various designer papers measuring 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" for the insides of the windows. I used Pansy Petals, Beauty of the Earth, and Dandy Garden to portray the four seasons.
Stamp greeting. I used Sweet Strawberry stamped in Mossy Meadow ink.
Die-Cut or punch embellishments:
-Meadow Dies cut out of Basic White card stock and colored with Cajun Craze, Fresh Freesia, and Bumblebee inks using sponge daubers.
-Butterfly from Butterfly Gala stamped on Soft Seafoam card stock using Mossy Meadow ink and punched using Butterfly Duo Punch
-Leaves punched out of Evening Evergreen card stock using Leaf Punch.
-Leaves cut out of Cajun Craze card stock and Ombre Specialty Paper using the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine and Stitched Leaves Dies.
-Snowflake cut out of Night of Navy card stock using the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine and So Many Snow Flake Die.
7. Add lines to Mossy Meadow card front using Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine and Stitched Leaves Die. Attach to Basic White card base.
8. Attach windows to the card front. I used Stampin' Seal on the bottom of each window, plus along the connecting tabs to keep them open.
9. Add embellishments to windows using Mini Dimensionals to pop them up.
10. Add Bumblebee Trinkets to window using Glue Dots.
11. Add jewels, gems, and rhinestones to complete.
