My Homestead Life Community News
Howdy

We're happier than a frog in a forest full of flies that you're here.

Our Story- If you are new to My Homestead Life Community and would like to follow our journey, you can read past MHL Newsletters by clicking here.

This week was brutal on the garden, daily heat index over 105° and very little rain.
I tried to pick all the fruit so the plants could focus on surviving instead of producing.
Added another layer of mulch and made sure they had a drink of rainwater.
We only use rainwater or gray water for irrigation, so only the strong survive on our homestead.

My husband Tim worked on a roofing job all week (in 100+ degrees) so it was vital to make sure he didn't get heat stroke.
Keeping him hydrated with electrolytes, proper clothes, shade, and observing his limits- it was a full time job for me. The man likes to push his boundaries.
I made neck coolers (link below) that help tremendously in keeping  you cool during the dog days of Summer.

We made great progress with the house as well. Our son moved off our couch and back into his newly remodeled bedroom. Praise GOD!
It was a complete gut, from the floor joist to a new roof and ceiling.
I hope to share a video of the new room soon along with before pictures.

Remember that crazy exciting news I keep promising to share with you?
Well- I'm not ready.
BUT- I want to tell you anyways. So here it is in the most simplistic form.

We hope (and pray- lots and lots of prayers) to put our beach house on the market soon. VERY soon.
During this time we will launch a Contest  asking You to help us find our New Homestead Land!
We will have prizes, voting, videos and much more!

Our contest is not live at the moment, but you are welcome to take a behind the scenes peek by clicking this link.

Our goal is to invite you to join us from conception to completion and form a Community of like-minded people to share this adventure with.

Fresh Okra From the Garden-
A Southern Staple
We love to slice it up and saute it in the skillet with some sea salt, oil, fresh garlic and red peppers.
Cook it just until it passes the slime stage and gets a charred mark.
