Even if you’re not religious, you’re probably familiar with the story, “the parting of the Red Sea.”

Let’s hear the modern version!

Remember I told you that I went out on this really long hike, about 7 miles from my Airbnb, where I had discovered all the stores I ever wanted… and found the God backpack!

I could see the Walmart, shining like its own little city, in the distance and decided that I could make it.

I had to walk through a massive mall parking lot, which is actually not a safe thing to do, because no one expects a person to be just walking the edges of the mall parking lot, next to the road that circles it.

Once I navigated the mall, I almost decided to give up and stay put at Chick-fil-A fast food restaurant. There is no Chick-fil-A fast food in Australia. If you love Chick-fil-A, you can feel my pain over that!

As I looked at where I had to go to reach the Walmart,

it was NOT walk friendly.

I had to cross some pretty serious intersections, the kind of intersections that have crosswalks but don’t really ever expect a pedestrian to be there. I had across a major highway and the on and off ramps to said major highway all at… Rush-hour!

Oh… And it was hot. But I was carrying a backpack God gave me, so I was feeling pretty invincible.

I was super careful walking toward the Walmart and I was so grateful when I finally ended up across the street and six lanes of traffic away from it. And… I couldn’t cross them. Why? Because I like my legs.

I had to walk down probably another half mile or so to reach another one of those token crosswalks and double back. You can see my route in Red on this photo.

Made it into Walmart, where everything I was looking for (except for backpack) was present and on sale.

As I’m leaving the Walmart, I walk straight out to the edge of the 6 lane road.

Right before I get there, I realize I should’ve bought more proteins shakes and yes, painfully, I double back. That’s another quarter mile to go back into the Walmart, get the protein shakes, buy them and come back to the same spot.

Only THIS time as I approach my intuition tells me something…

I can just cross.

Please understand that I did not interpret that nudge as a miracle that was about to occur.

I took my intuition as “I should be brave enough to wait my time and dash across three lanes, wait in the median and then dash across three more lanes.”

So, prepared to do just that, I stepped up to the road the same way the Israelites stepped up to the Red Sea…

And it parted.

Suddenly there were NO cars on my side of the road,

for three lanes. CLEAR.

I didn’t question it a moment further and dashed across to the median to wait for the other three lanes to clear. Only, just as soon as I reached the median, the other three lanes delivered the SAME magic gap in traffic.

I literally could’ve just walked straight across six lanes of traffic and a median without stopping and been perfectly safe.

I immediately called out my thanks for parting the Red Sea of traffic and resumed my hike, that had me cross I think four “on ramps” to a major highway.

And yes, you guessed it.

At each on-ramp there was either no traffic coming or the light turned so I just walked across.

The Red Sea Traffic Effect continued until I returned safely back to the Chick-fil-A at the edge of the mall.

I’m glad I listened to my intuition to go to Walmart just to have experienced that.

I felt like I was on a movie set and a Director somewhere was calling cut and holding the traffic for me.

Hotel Happiness

I told you in a previous story about my hotel, an Airbnb room in a home in Hacienda Heights, CA.

I told you how amazingly it was located it and had everything I needed.

But there’s one part of the story that needed more detail.

One of the reasons I came to this Airbnb because I was promised 1000 Mb of Internet speed.

Australia is practically Third World when it comes to Internet speeds, I literally was getting about 8 Mb (now that is not a typo!) at home.

I very much need of these fast speeds because I would be receiving 12 to 20 gigs of photo and video data from my photo shoot, that I needed to transfer safely.

It turns out, I couldn’t access the thousand megabit speed network.

In fact, I was getting… 40. Now, make no mistake, 40 is way better than I’m used to but it was still going to take hours and hours to do what I needed to do.

I sent the host a message and explained the situation that I was only getting 40 Mb and that was just too slow.

Miracle response?

The owner of the home, a lovely Chinese man that did not speak English, appeared at my door with a drill and a ladder.

He literally went outside of their home and ran an ethernet cable up the outside wall of of the house and into my room through the window.

ALL so I could have a better direct, wired connection to their 2nd network.

THAT gave me 100 Mb speed which was fast enough!

Everything I needed was provided even if they had to BUILD IT.

For $70 a night in California!
