Dear Friends,

As promised, we want to share an update with you about our 2020 summer retreat season at the Feathered Pipe Ranch. With most states now in the process of reopening, we have been discussing with all teachers what is the proper direction to take concerning their week at the Ranch. Montana, as of June 1st, has moved into stage 2 of our reopening process, with groups of up to 50 being allowed with appropriate social distancing. Up to now, Montana has continued to be able to effectively minimize the spread of the virus through proactive social distancing, testing and monitoring.

Considering this, and that many states as well appear to be lessening the spread through prudent and mindful safety protocol, we are tentatively planning to move forward with all programs from The Mindful Unplug, 11 - 18 July, this summer (except Baxter & Melina's program which has been rescheduled for 2021). With our teachers’ insightful recommendations, we have come up with a clear and enhanced safety protocol for all aspects of your retreat program from shuttle services, dining, accommodation, and activities. Here is an overview. (We will share a complete and detailed list in the coming weeks.)

  • All programs will have a maximum of 24 participants.
  • Social distancing should be practiced at all times.
  • Face-masks will be required in all indoor communal facilities. The teacher will define the safety protocol during classes.
  • All accommodations will be single occupancy, unless friends/partners have come together and wish to room together.
  • Bodywork & massage services will be available with a focus on non-touch Reiki/energy work and Tibetan singing bowls healing work. The sauna and hot tub will be closed for everyone’s safety.
  • Ability to sanitize your mat with a UV sanitizer will be available, and props will be assigned to each registrant for the entire week.
  • Hand-sanitizers will be readily available and easily accessible in all facilities.
  • If PCR viral tests are easily available in your area, we strongly recommend that you get tested before coming.
  • All final payments will not be due until 2 weeks before your program, in case there is a resurgence of the virus.

For those wishing to reserve a particular accommodation, the upgrade accommodation fees for indoor lodging are set at last year's levels to ease financial stress. As the Main Lodge dorm rooms typically house 3-4 roommates and will now be either single or double occupancy only, the fee to reserve them as well has been adjusted.

For those not wishing to pay an upgrade accommodation fee to reserve a particular accommodation, your preference of lodging will be noted and your name will go into a pool with all other registrants not wishing to pay an upgrade fee. Remaining lodging then will be assigned before the program start according to the date registered (earliest to latest). As said before, we will do our best to accommodate everyone's need.

One additional note for those who are intending to join us this summer, Delta Airlines which flies direct to Helena via Minneapolis and Salt Lake City has drastically cut the number of flights they are running to and from secondary and small cities domestically. Because of this, we would strongly encourage those planning their travel to investigate both Alaska and United Airlines. Both airlines are still running at least two flights a day in and out of Helena. Alaska, as well, has started servicing numerous locations on the East Coast and in the Midwest, beyond their typical West Coast routes.

All cancelled 2020 programs have rescheduled dates set already for 2021. For those not feeling comfortable with travel this summer, feel free to register early and reserve your desired lodging choice for next summer. The entire 2021 schedule will be announce later in the season. Stay tuned!

Please take best care, be safe, and we look forward to seeing you at the Ranch!

Love & Gratitude,
Feathered Pipe Foundation

Returning To The Self: The Practice Of Pratyahara – Judith Hanson Lasater

For years I interpreted the teachings I heard about pratyahara to mean that I must physically and literally withdraw from the world in order to be a true disciple of yoga. I would react with dismay at this teaching; I was an engaged person, busy studying physical therapy in school to improve my yoga teaching, additionally I was married and contemplating having several children. I sometimes worried that unless I learned to separate myself from the world I was a lesser or inferior yoga student.

Today I feel differently...
