Dear Friends,

Summer continues to roll on here at the Feathered Pipe Ranch, with Josh and crew making many renovations and improvements to the facilities and grounds. We have been fortunate so far with rain and moisture continuing on into the month of August. The wildflowers and grasses grow high and the new forest in the meadow near the Stupa stretches higher and higher toward the sky.

We were honored to have an incredible, other-worldly ceremony up at the Stupa a couple weeks ago, by a dear Tibetan friend and performing artist Tsering Lodoe. To say that he opened the door to realms beyond and invited us all to step in, would be a gross understatement. It truly was a 'ceremony of passage' which felt so befitting India. We offer it here for your viewing, for possible release and closure. Click here.

Support Your Virtual Community

With the effects of COVID19 still being felt by so many, we encourage you all to find ways to create and sustain community. Many of our teachers have moved their classes online during these times. In support, we have created an online sangha as a way to build the bridge between. Most are offering daily and weekly classes, with special online workshop opportunities happening throughout the year. Feel free to explore here.

Among our dear alumni who are offering their teaching online is senior Iyengar Yoga teacher John Schumacher, founder and director of Unity Woods Yoga Center, of one of the oldest and largest Iyengar Yoga studios in America. John recently made the difficult decision after more than 40 years of community service to close their brick and mortar studios in the DC area. Please do consider supporting them during this transition.

John sat down with freelance writer Andy Vantrease last month for an extended interview in honor of India's passing and their more than three decades of friendship. We are privileged to share it with you
here.

Stay safe, be well, and remain open to others.

Faith & Gratitude,

John Schumacher: A Lifetime Of Yoga And Self-Discovery

The Feathered Pipe was honored to host John Schumacher along with Patricia Walden for a week-long retreat that became an annual reunion-like gathering of Iyengar yogis and yoginis for nearly 20 years.

Here, John reflects on his journey with BKS Iyengar, memories of teaching at the Feathered Pipe Ranch and the aspects of yoga and a lifetime of self-discovery.

Feathered Pipe Kitchen: Barley Vegetable Soup

For anyone who returns to the Feathered Pipe Ranch year after year, they know that soups have long been a lunchtime staple, with hearty and wholesome blends of vegetables, pulses and herbs that change from one visit to the next. Enjoy!
