Valentine's Day Thoughts

Valentine’s Day is a wonderful reminder of how much we humans value close, loving relationships. Many of us have one primary relationship with a “significant other” with whom we seek to meet many of our needs for giving and receiving love.

February, with Valentine’s Day in the middle, is sometimes called “The Month of Love” – romantic love. But, like the month of February, romantic love often has some cold and difficult days – perhaps even Valentine’s Day!

Commercial interests have tried hard to shape our expectations as to what we should consider true expressions of love on Valentine’s Day – flowers, cards, chocolates, diamonds, etc. And these gifts sometimes do help – temporarily.

But most of us know, down deep, that we need something more satisfying and deeply fulfilling than token indications of love. We long for authentic, nonjudgmental, intimate communication with our partner.

The challenge can be to find those wonderful resources of love and courage deep within us that allow us to share genuine forgiveness, honest vulnerability, and compassionate love. Many of us need a little help finding those inner resources and finding new, more-effective tools to heal our relationship breakdowns.

I feel truly blessed to experience the joy of helping individuals and couples to find their inner resources and transform their lives into something so much more harmonious and satisfying than they had previously thought possible.
