Hello , I hope all is well with you and yours? Over the next two or three issues I'll be giving an insight into business coaching, with examples of some of the tools I use to help you get the clarity you need.
This is not about legal or financial issues, as you need specialists in those areas, and that's not coaching. Rather it's about your thoughts, plans, actions, challenges and vision around your own situation. You can see more detail in my small business package
here. One exercise we would do in the early stages of small business coaching would be to get an overview of the 'life' of your business so far. You would draw a line representing the high and low points of your business over time,
quickly, instinctively and without thinking too much at this stage. You might come up with something like the example below, and this will generate areas for discussion and improvement. You can also use this idea to look at your personal life history too, as well as your business. In both cases you might look at
the line you have drawn and think, if this were from someone else, what would stand out for me? What might I have done differently? Well, it seems they can make you miserable! This study looked at how we feel when waiting for the results of an election, not just afterwards when it hasn't gone the way we want. Elections in the USA have been
notoriously contentious in recent years, and this study looks in detail at how people were feeling before it as
well. It found that there was a significant association between 'anticipated election-related stress and negative mood', describing this as 'anticipatory stress'. The team suggest that knowing this could help us take 'anticipatory stress' more seriously and to put in place ways to deal with such stress. (I am thinking, as
you may recall from a previous update, that the Three Principles Approach could help here - the stress is not so much from the event itself, as from the thinking about it!) In any case, I wonder if the UK Conservative Party is considering this, as we wait to see who we are going to get as our new Prime Minister.
If, like me, you enjoy gazing up at the clouds on a hot summer's day and seeing pictures in them, you may enjoy my recommendation this week. I mentioned this idea in a blog about Clean Coaching, and this book is about the importance of metaphors, pictures we make in our
minds. It's called 'Metaphors we live
by', and it develops the idea that metaphors 'structure our most basic understanding of our experience', maybe even before we express our thoughts in language. It's a classic!

- As we can see all too clearly from our current extreme UK heat, climate change continues to get more and more urgent, and I cannot stress this enough. So I'm
still doing my best to spread the word about this. Do please consider joining my free updated list, as well as

- I am now creating downloadable exercises and worksheets on my website here, to give you a taste of what you might get when you work with me. The first one is there now and it's about working out your values and what needs to be in place for you to honour them. The next one will be about where to start, when you know something's got to change! Meanwhile if you think of something
else you'd like, for issues that face you right now, let me know and I'll prioritise it.
- If you're thinking of working personally with me, I always recommend that we first have a free intro call (updated link) to make sure coaching is right for you before we start. If I don't think it is, I'll say so and try to signpost you to what else would be
helpful. I'm limiting my one to one work at the moment due to a family illness but I do still have space for a couple of clients over the next month.
- You can see all my coaching packages and e-books on this link here to my shop, and you can check my availability on the (updated) button below. And if you can't see a suitable time, contact me anyway and
