Hi
Happy Weekend!
I hope that it’s been a good week and that you’re happy and healthy.
I know it’s been a while since I’ve sent out a newsletter. Still a bit discombobulated by the pandemic. Are you finding that you have no concept of time? Things that you thought happened a year ago actually took place two or three years ago? I am.
It’s like the pandemic put us in a cryogenic freeze for a couple of years and we’ve just thawed out.
I have been productive, though. I’ve been writing like crazy. Over the last 18 months or so, I’ve written two television pilots, a solo play, an ensemble play for San Francisco Playhouse and a crime novel that’s currently being shopped to publishers. I figured it’s time to get out of my bubble and bring back the blog on a regular basis so, here it is.
I’ve got a few things to recommend to you this week:
Watching
THE GIRL FROM PLAINVILLE on Hulu. This is a true crime miniseries based on the story of Michelle Carter, the teenage girl who goaded her depressed boyfriend into committing suicide by carbon monoxide. Did she deserve a prison term for this act? Watch this show and you decide. Elle Fanning is great as the young Ms. Carter.
THIS IS US on NBC.
Okay I’ll admit that I’m obsessed with this show as it completes its network run over the next two Tuesdays. My daughter, Carolyn got me into the story of the Pearson family and their decades-long trials and tribulations in season one. Hard to believe it’s been six years. It’s been the best show on network television in years. The writing and acting are superb. It makes me cry like a nine year old with a skinned knee! The last few shows have been real tearjerkers. This coming Tuesday’s
penultimate episode is expected to be gut wrenching. If you haven’t seen this show, I highly recommend going to Hulu or the NBC website or Peacock and starting at the beginning. Trust me. It’s worth it!
If you have been watching, star Mandy Moore said on the Tonight Show this week that people are going to need to take the next day off from work after seeing it. Stock up on tissues!
Reading
I WILL TEACH YOU TO BE RICH by Ramit Sethi. I was given this book as a gift a while ago and I’m just getting around to reading it. It’s a great, practical guide on setting up budgets, managing credit and getting the most from your credit cards. I highly recommend it.
DR. STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS
I put on my mask and ventured out to an actual movie theater this week to see Marvel’s newest cinematic offering. It was a fun and throughly entertaining ride. While it isn’t a prerequisite, it does help a little if you’ve seen the terrific streaming series WANDAVISION because it’s referenced, but you’ll like the movie even if you haven’t seen the show. It’s just great!
GO!
My pal Greg Proops (from WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? ) has recorded a live album of pure improvisation in San Francisco and it’s HYSTERICAL! It’s called IN THE CITY and it’s available now. Check it out!
