Copie's Choice for the weekend of July 24

Happy Weekend!

Well, let’s be honest...for most of us, the last four months have all had 7 days of weekends.

I’ve been writing like crazy. Just finished a first draft of my very first crime novel. Gonna let it breathe a few weeks then go back and rewrite.

I was commissioned to write an original play for the San Francisco Playhouse for 2021. I’m a third of the way through the first draft on that.

In addition, I’m doing my weekly COPELAND’S CORNER podcast and my daily BEATING THE DEMON podcast..

So in short...I’m trying REALLY hard to stay busy during this depressing and terrifying time. You should too!

Got a few tips for entertainment this week...

BOOKS

Read both new Trump books the last week. Former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s THE ROOM WHERE IT HAPPENED which recounts his experiences with the various foreign policy issues that arose during his tenure...and Trump’s inability to deal with them in a strategic manner.

I’ll be honest and tell you that this book ticked me off. Primary because Bolton had information about other impeachable offenses yet rather than testify before Congress, he held out and made $2 million with a book deal.

Mary TrumpThat’s about as far from patriotism as you can get. For that reason, for the first time I’m saying DON’T further enrich this man by buying this book.

If you must read it, borrow it or get it from the library.

I also read Mary L. Trump Ph.D.’s TOO MUCH AND NEVER ENOUGH: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.

Mary is Donald’s niece and she goes though the family lore and, when appropriate, provides psychological analysis based on her mental health training and her personal, first hand knowledge of her uncle.

My big takeaway? ANYONE with Fred Trump as a father would have turned out the way Donald did. DEFINITELY READ.

Half Moon BayToday my friends and bestselling authors Jonathan and Jesse Kellerman release the third book in their Clay Edison series, HALF MOON BAY.

Clay works for the Alameda County Coroner’s office, lives in Berkeley and was raised in San Leandro.

How could I not love these books?

BUY.

MUSIC

The Chicks (formerly the Dixie Chicks) have released their first album in over a decade entitled GASLIGHTER. It’s mainly a breakup album about the divorce of lead singer/songwriter Natalie Maines and actor Adrian Pasdar after 17 years of marriage.

It’s personal and it’s GOOD. My favorite track is TIGHTS ON MY BOAT. Apparently one of Adrian’s paramours left her tights on Natalie’s boat.

All I can say about her response is...OUCH.

LISTEN.

TELEVISION

This week I watched the Netflix movie THE OLD GUARD starring Charlize Theron (who I’d watch read my shopping list) as the leader of a team of immortals who fight to try to do the right thing. It’s great and Netflix is already talking sequel.

WATCH.

Copeland's CornerLISTEN

As I wrote earlier, I’ve been busy with a few projects. I have two different podcasts I’d like to invite you to check out.

COPELAND’S CORNER is a weekly roundup of the week’s news with analysis by comedians and timely interviews with members of Congress and newsmaker guests. It comes out on Thursdays.

Listen to the latest episode here.

BEATING THE DEMON is a daily podcast for people who deal with depression and anxiety as well as those who love them. Monday thru Friday I give a 3-5 minute tip on things I do to make myself feel better during the times that I struggle. You can hear the latest here as well as the previous 45 3-minute tidbits.

I’m hearing from folks who tell me that it’s really helping them.

Wear a mask when you are in public and here’s hoping that you and yours stay safe and healthy during this difficult time.
