Dear ,
The principal of my boys' elementary school would stand at the door and greet every student.
Every single morning.
And when the students would respond back, "Good Morning, Ms. Ortiz," she would repeat the "Good Morning _______ (the name of the student)."
But equally as important, she would always look them directly into the eyes and greet them. If they replied and had their head down of if they were looking away and not directly at her, she would lift up their chin with her hand, look them straight in the eyes, and say, "That's better."
After a week or two of this, she had them all pretty trained to follow this routine for the rest of the year.
My boys and I often reminisce about this. They tell me at the time it was an annoying exercise. But as they went through high school and now college (and soon to be the workplace), they could see how invaluable her methods were.
The eyes.
The smile.
The firm handshake.
The confident posture.
The cordial personality.
These are all things that matter. Yes, even in today's unsettled, Business Casual environment, these things still matter.
And leave an impression.
They are also the basis -- ABSOLUTE FUNDAMENTS -- for networking and establishing a strong first impression.
Believe it or not, they are sometimes just as important (maybe even more important) than the business elements themselves.
Never to be forgotten.
Hope you have a great day!
Until next time...
And, remember, K.I.C. (Keep It Coptic).
