My personal story of advanced
networking
I was working with the chair of the management committee at a large public company in the late 1990s. He and I were responsible for creating and distributing the bi-weekly management committee agenda to the divisional C-level heads.
Heading for an IPO, the chair was on the road most of the time and I could not get time with him to finalize the agenda on one particular occasion (ahead of a strategic planning session).
At the last minute, I reserved the seat
next to him on an airplane he was taking for a day trip to another city…it was a risk, but it was worth it. I was able to have one-on-one time with him both ways.
We finalized the agenda, the chair was impressed with my strategy, and we were able to make several important decisions as a team the next
week—optimizing performance for the company!

At the time of writing this email, I (Maureen Farmer—CEO) am preparing for hurricane Fiona to
hit Nova Scotia, CANADA. Living on the east coast most of my life, I am accustomed to tropical storms and am equipped to prepare for them. That said, it’s never a comforting feeling to head into the unknowns of a major storm. Atlantic Canada holds the highest targeted provinces for hurricanes and tropical storms. Here is a picture of the calm before the storm. Next week, I’ll share the post-storm photo with you.
