A career path to investing

It's now officially Q2. I hope you had a great quarter and that business is booming for you, despite what we're hearing in the media. 

Recently I (Maureen Farmer) had the pleasure of speaking with Chris Haynes on Westgate's Get Hired Up! podcast.

Chris is an investment banker turned venture capitalist and investor who backs companies in the medical device, digital health and education sectors based in the United States, India, and Africa. 

Chris is also in his early thirties, which I feel is young for an investor, and spends most of his days interviewing Founders and conducting deal due diligence. He says most deals close in about 60 days on average and he's deeply connected to the Founders in their impact missions. 

Chris is currently an investor for TEAMFund, an impact investing organization focused on improving the accessibility, affordability, and quality of care for the world's underserved populations. 

Before TEAMFund, Chris was on the investment team at Ascension Ventures, a venture capital fund that has invested more than $1 billion on behalf of several of the largest not-for-profit health systems in the United States.

In this week's episode of the Get Hired Up podcast, Chris and I discuss 4 questions he asks founders:

Family Always Matters ...

I'm (Maureen Farmer, CEO/Founder of Westgate) very grateful to my sister and her husband (Sarah & Andrew) for hosting the girls this this past week in Grand Turk. 

After the passing of our mother in 2021, the ravages of COVID, and the day-to-day struggles we face by simply being human, I'm delighted that my daughters Allison (left) & Brenna (right) got to connect with their beloved Auntie Sarah & Uncle Andrew for an entire week of rest, relaxation, and recreation. 

Highlights (I'm told) included Uncle Andrew's outdoor movie theatre, Auntie Sarah's cinnamon rolls and pizza, swimming with sea turtles and snorkeling with barracudas at Governor's Beach (oh yes, and daily refreshments!). Barracudas do not pose any danger unless they are threatened. 

I'm not sure I'd want to snorkel with a barracuda.
