Not surprisingly, here at Westgate, we are seeing an increase in the number of inquiries from executives that are sparked by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Executive leaders in retail, manufacturing, travel and luxury goods are taking time now to prepare for the inevitability of market changes.

We also see a trend toward more stable employment options, such as:

1. CEOs, CXOs, CIOs and CTOs returning to employment in corporate America or Canada after an exit to (PE) private equity firms.
2. Business turnaround experts who want a short-term project for a PE firm.
3. Executives who want to transition to a more stable industry.
4. Business owners who are ready to sell the business and move back into the labor market.
5. Executives who want to position themselves as an independent director for public companies.

A backup plan is a wise option. Here are some options:

1. If you are currently employed, review your employment contract for termination details. We are predicting a massive wave of terminations. Understand your entitlements.
2. Know your non-compete clause. Some can have up to two-year restrictive covenants. Check with your lawyer/attorney.
3. Create an exit strategy, beginning with development leadership plans for your direct reports to protect your team and your reputation on your exit.
4. Reinvent your job in your current organization.
5. Ensure your licenses and certifications are current in case you need to fall back on them.
6. Create an LLC as an alternative revenue stream in the event of an unexpected termination.
