We want to wish you a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year.
Here in Halifax, (CANADA) we're not traveling too far because of COVID-19. Our annual parties, brunches, and get togethers are making way for lots of reading (Sapiens, Dan Kennedy's marketing books), Netflix (Schitt's Creek and the Queen's Gambit are among our favorites), and listening to music (William Prince, The Tragically Hip, Nancy Griffith, Sarah McLachlan, Sara Harmer, Kathleen
Edwards, Coldplay, The Cranberries, The Rankins, and anything by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky).
We are also grateful to have you follow Westgate on our journey to help people reach their professional goals, and we look forward to sharing our upcoming projects with you in the new year.
I also want to share a treasured find! Here are my mother-in-law’s rolling pin, flour sifter, cookie cutters, and pastry board recovered from our attic when we brought out the holiday decorations.
Mary Georgina Farmer was one of 22 children who grew up in Prince Edward Island (CANADA).
She learned to bake bread before she was 9 years old. We miss her dearly.
On Friday, I used these old treasures to bake Scottish Shortbread for our holiday brunch (immediate family only).
Here is the recipe that came from my maternal grandmother from Hazel Hill, Nova Scotia (CANADA):
SCOTTISH SHORTBREAD
- 2 and ¼ cup of sifted flour (I prefer unbleached organic)
- ½ cup dark brown sugar (packed)
- ½ lb (1 cup) butter
- Knead well to ¼ inch thick
- Bake at 275 degrees F. for 20 minutes (they should not be too dark)
I wonder how many cookies were cut with these old cutters?
Happy Holidays from the Westgate family to yours!
