Do you wince when the chair of the board or recruiter requests you to: “Tell me about yourself”? I think most people do. Well, I’ve created a tool to help you respond to this request with ease and confidence so there are no more sleepless nights before job interviews.
You may be surprised to know that many CEO’s dread this question.
Here’s what one CEO told us:
“I must be honest, Maureen, I get physically ill with business assessment testing and job interviews. This goes back to primary school where I would get so nervous before a test that I would feel sick.”
To improve confidence and clarity, take the pressure off by focusing on objective outcomes of your work rather than on yourself, because in the business context, you need to address the organization’s needs to:
- Earn Revenue
- Save Money
- Solve a Problem for the employer (legal, engineering, product development, compliance, etc.)
In my previous experience recruiting executives, I noticed most candidates were unclear on the specific value they deliver.
They spoke in general terms about their responsibilities whereas very few were able to articulate the specific benefits (with metrics).
