In this episode of the Get Hired Up podcast, Dr. Zlatko Pozeg discusses his career as a globally recognized cardiovascular surgeon, the advancements of technology during COVID-19, mentorship, and his advice to applicants for medical school.
He reveals his interest in literature and history – expressed through his 8000+ book collection as a bibliophile (and member of Grolier Club in NY and Association Internationale de Bibliophilie in Paris).
Dr. Pozeg shares his passion for medical practice and how he and his team continue to improve the quality of life for heart disease victims. For example, with the introduction of less invasive methods, they’re able to send many patients home within days (versus weeks).
I asked Dr. Pozeg how Covid-19 has affected their efforts and he surprised me with a positive response:
“…because of Covid, we're doing a case here in the next month or so, which involves one of the newest stents on the market for treating a certain type of aortic disease. And it's with a particular company who has developed an exceedingly high-level method of live streaming.
So, they come in a day or two before to the operating room. Cameras, TVs, microphones are all set up and we do the case. We have the company support and the experts in the field who have done this particular graft and they're able to be live streamed and it’s almost as though they're there.”
Tune in to hear more about his career in aortic surgery, what has surprised him the most in his career thus far, and much more.

This is my Dad, Stuart Raven, with our younger daughter, Allison (now 25) in 1998 -- a lifetime ago, it seems. Today is my Dad's birthday--He was one of the first computer programmers in the Canadian navy (FORTRAN, Cobalt), avid gardener, library goer, foodie, historian. mathematician and wonderful father. I wish he were here to listen to Dr. Pozeg and his impact on the
world of medicine. I hope you get the chance to listen to the podcast.
