Hey ,
If you live or have a business in New York or Mississippi, you may be eligible for a tax deadline extension due to the recent storms that affected your area.
The IRS has announced that taxpayers in certain counties of these states can file their 2022 federal tax returns
and make tax payments later than April 18, 2023.
The new deadlines
are:
- May 15, 2023, for New York taxpayers in Suffolk, Erie, Niagara, Genesee, or St. Lawrence counties.
- July 31, 2023, for Mississippi taxpayers in Carroll, Humphreys, Monroe, and Sharkey counties.
This extension applies to personal income tax returns, business returns, estimated tax payments, quarterly payroll and excise tax, and penalties on payroll and excise tax deposits.
You can also contribute to your health savings accounts or IRAs until the new deadline.
You don’t need to do anything to get this extension. The IRS will automatically grant you relief based on your address when you file your return.
However, if you need more time beyond the new deadline, you should request an extension online before April 18 or by mail after April 18 and before your new
deadline.
