Hey ,
The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) issued a vital fraud alert regarding stolen checks, including tax refund checks, sent through the U.S. mail.
The alert warns that criminals are increasingly stealing checks and using personally identifiable information
found in stolen mail for future fraud schemes.
As your trusted tax professional, I
take your security seriously.
I want to remind you to be on the lookout for
suspicious activities and take steps to protect your tax information from criminals who could use it to commit fraud.
Here are some ways you can protect yourself:
- Sign up for Informed Delivery® by USPS. It’s free and lets you preview your mail and manage your scheduled packages digitally.
- File your taxes electronically. Filing your taxes
electronically is more secure than sending your information through the mail. It also allows you to receive your refund more quickly and securely.
- Secure your mailbox. Use a locking mailbox or install a mailbox alarm to protect your mail from theft.
- Monitor your credit report regularly to ensure no unauthorized
accounts or inquiries have been made. Consider placing a credit freeze on your credit reports to prevent fraudsters from opening new accounts in your name.
If you have any concerns or questions or need a trusted tax pro to help you file electronically this season, please do not
hesitate to contact my team at +1 202-618-1297.
I would be happy to discuss your
options and help you make the best decision for your business.
Thank you for
considering me for your tax return filing needs. I look forward to working with you.
