Hey ,
A Clay County man recently pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft, fraud, and tax charges. This case was uncovered by federal authorities in Florida.
The perpetrator, Christopher Leo Daragjati, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including wire fraud, aggravated
identity theft, and theft of government property.
How did he do it?
Daragjati used stolen personal information of several victims to open commercial lines of credit, apply for PPP loans, and file fraudulent tax returns.
He obtained over $150,000 in loan proceeds and equipment, which he either pawned or stole. He also received a tax refund of over $3,000 in a victim’s name.
Daragjati faces up to 20 years in prison for each wire fraud count, 2 years for each aggravated
identity theft count, and 10 years for the theft of government property charge.
He will also have to pay restitution to the victims he defrauded. His sentencing is scheduled for October 26, 20233.
