Hey ,
The IRS’s latest efforts to crack down on tax evasion and fraud, especially among high-income, high-wealth individuals and complex partnerships, should leave you looking to polish up your tax game.
“Uncle Sam” recently announced new initiatives to pursue those who do not pay their fair share of taxes, such as:
- Strengthening enforcement: Using Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) resources to hire more auditors, investigators and prosecutors to target large corporations, wealthy individuals and abusive tax schemes. They are also intensifying criminal investigations on dubious claims for the Employee Retention Credit (ERC).
- Launching new tools: Online tools to help taxpayers and tax professionals manage their accounts, respond to notices, upload documents and access tax information.
- Digitizing paper returns: The IRS has scanned over 1 million paper returns during the 2023 calendar year, which will speed up processing, reduce errors, save storage costs and improve customer service. Digitizing paper returns will also give the IRS access to more data and information to identify and
pursue noncompliant taxpayers.
These are just some of the ways that the IRS is enhancing its capabilities and resources to ensure
that everyone pays their fair share of taxes. If you have any unpaid taxes, unreported income or questionable deductions, I urge you to come forward and resolve your tax issues as soon as possible.
However, if you are involved in any aggressive or fraudulent tax schemes, be prepared to face serious consequences. The IRS is not playing games and will not tolerate any attempts to cheat the system. You may face audits, penalties, interest, liens, levies, seizures, injunctions, or criminal prosecution.
