Dear ,
You need to be on high alert this tax season – the IRS warned about a nasty scam that could seriously mess with your money. Dishonest promoters are pushing fake fuel tax credits on unsuspecting
taxpayers.
How the scam works:
- Scammers promise huge refunds by adding the fuel credit to your return (even though you don't qualify).
- They charge big fees for this "service."
- You could end up owing back the money, facing penalties, interest, AND risk identity theft.
Don't fall for it!
The fuel tax credit is for specific uses – most of us will NEVER be eligible. If someone promises you major money through this credit, that's a massive red flag.
Protect yourself:
- Get informed: Read the IRS's full warning on the "Dirty Dozen" scams
- Be wary: Anyone promising an unrealistically huge refund is probably shady.
- Trust the pros: Seek out reputable tax preparers like me, even if it
costs more upfront. A real professional looks out for your long-term tax health.
Report the
scammers:
If you see someone promoting this bogus fuel credit scheme, report them to the IRS to protect yourself and others.
