Sierra Nevada Region—Usually a “Beginners Guides” is written by experts for beginners. Well not in this case. Instead this is a “Guide to Towing” by a beginner. If you are new to towing or thinking about
towing, this article should open your eyes as to what you are getting into. If you are an experienced tower, hopefully there are a few gems in here for you too. There’s nothing like a 3,500 mile trip to focus one’s attention on the task at hand. How tight should a tie down be? What is a trailer brake controller? How do I backup? Are you ready? Let’s dive in. Since this is a Porsche newsletter, the focus will be on towing your favorite sports car. But almost everything discussed here will be
applicable to trailers with a total weight of 3,000 to 7,000 pounds.

is a monthly email newsletter offered by PCA specifically for four-door Porsche owners and enthusiasts interested in the latest news and information about Panamera, Taycan, Macan, and Cayenne vehicles.

|
| | 9tro Alliance—In 24 hours a pre-production Taycan covered a distance of exactly 3,425 kilometres righty before the world premiere on 4th September as part of a test at the Nardò high-speed track in Italy.
This roughly corresponds to the distance from Nardò to Trondheim in Norway. In sizzling temperatures at the southern Italian test track, the speed was between 195 and 215km/h. With peak temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius and a track temperature of up to 54 degrees Celsius, the Taycan proved its long-distance qualities before the launch. The test was carried out without interruptions, as the prototype Taycan merely had to pause for quick charging stops and driver changes.

Car and Driver—With the 541-hp 2019 Cayenne Turbo firmly ensconced at the top of the Porsche's SUV hierarchy, there was only one thing left for the automaker to do: knock it off its perch with the 2020
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid SUV and coupe. We'd be lying if we said we didn't know these top-dog hybrid versions were coming, but we figured Zuffenhausen would let the Cayenne Turbo at least get comfortable before nudging it aside with these 670-hp plug-in-hybrid flagship Cayennes.

| | Car and Driver—Porsche's high-performance electric sedan, the 2020 Taycan, is almost here. Just ahead of its formal debut on September 4th, we got a chance to ride along in a prototype with Porsche's product
line director for EVs, Robert Meier. Although the company is still holding back a lot of details on what is arguably the first direct Tesla competitor, we rode in a top-of-the line performance variant with the larger of two battery-pack options, carbon-ceramic brake rotors, active anti-roll bars, air springs, rear-wheel steering, and a 21-inch wheel-and-tire package.
|
Motor1—A few months ago, the folks over at Autocar pitted an Audi R8 V10 against a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid in a drag race. At the end of the quarter-mile, the Panamera absolutely crushed the Audi.
In this video, the Panamera is back again to take on a new challenger: the 911 Turbo S. Having more power than the R8, it’s interesting to find out if the Panamera can win again.

| |
Teslarati—A recent sighting of a Porsche Taycan prototype has provided a surprisingly refreshing look at the upcoming all-electric four-door sedan. Just months before the vehicle’s production version is expected to be unveiled, Porsche has taken off part of the headlight covers of one of its Taycan test mules. The result of this simple
change was a vehicle that immediately looks heavily inspired by the stunning Mission E sedan concept.

San Diego Region—This September, the PCA-SDR's Cayenne/Macan Off-Road Adventure Tour will head to the back country roads in Ramona, CA, in the Cleveland National Forest, for a half day of off-road driving along a route that consists of varying terrain of mostly single car-width dirt and rock trails. The trails are very scenic, starting out along a dirt road
along the San Dieguito River which then turns up from Pamo Valley onto the Santa Ysabel Truck Trail around Black Mountain for 1.5 hours of more technical, but still easy, single width rutted dirt trails.
| | |
| | Autoweek—Nearly 30,000 people have written deposit checks for Porsche’s all-electric vehicle, the Taycan. With a few more buyers,
about 5,000, it could overtake the 911. And the car hasn’t officially been revealed yet. That happens in September. The specs of the new Taycan were confirmed earlier this year. The Taycan will deliver more than 600 electric hp, sent to all four wheels. It will have a range of about 300 miles and, according to Porsche, fast charging will replenish 248 miles in just 15 minutes.
|
CarBuzz—It's time for a new front-engined sports car, Porsche. Front-engine, rear-drive is the classic setup for sports cars. And Porsche makes more sports cars than just about anybody else in the business. But it doesn't make any with that form. At least, it doesn't currently. But it once did, and could again. The last time it did was over two decades ago when it discontinued the 928 and 968 in 1995. Rumors
have been circulating ever since that it could return to the classic form. And looking at these two side by side, we can't help but feel it's an idea whose time has come.
| | |
| | Motor Trend—The Porsche Macan has been extensively refreshed for 2019, encompassing revised front and rear exterior styling, technology upgrades, and a new turbocharged V-6 engine for Macan S. Three new
colors join the palette—Chalk, Mamba Green, and Miami Blue. The Macan is Porsche’s smallest SUV, slotting below the larger Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe in the lineup. Currently, Macan and Macan S are available for 2019.
|
Motor1—It doesn't look like Porsche intends to change much about the Panamera's styling. Spy shots once again catch the refreshed Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo under development. Unlike the previous car that
was red, the brand used its standard black concealment this time. The front end of this Panamera Sport Turismo has black tape across the front bumper.
| | |
| | Motor1—As Porsche is slowly preparing itself for the production start of its first-ever all-electric vehicle, the company continues to build its conventional cars at highest quality standards across its
entire factory network. We love watching expensive sports and luxury cars being assembled, and we were especially happy when we stumbled upon this new video from our colleagues at Business Insider. The footage shows the production processes at Porsche’s Leipzig facility where the Panamera and Macan are built. It’s responsible for manufacturing more than 160,000 vehicles per year which is a pretty impressive number given the price and exclusivity of these two models.
|
U.S. News and World Report—Luxury compact SUVs are all the rage right now. This is thanks in large part to their combination of utility, upscale amenities, technology, and driving dynamics. But depending on
the brand, from Mercedes to BMW to Lexus, an emphasis will be put on one attribute over another. Take the Porsche Macan and the Audi Q5. Thanks to the corporate relationship of Porsche and Audi, these two vehicles are closely related. But while the Macan puts an emphasis on performance, the Q5 is all about tech. So which is the better small SUV?

| | Cars.com—Vehicles Affected: Approximately 33,200 model-year 2010-16 Porsche Panamera hatchbacks. The Problem: Water may enter the air-conditioner blower control unit, which could cause an electrical short
circuit and increase the risk of a fire. The Fix: Dealers will add a relay harness to the air-conditioner blower control unit and reseal it to prevent water from entering it; the repairs will be done free of charge.

Cars Guide—When you want a Porsche, but don't have the lifestyle for a sports car. When you want a Porsche but you have kids. When you want a Porsche but can't afford the sports car. When you want a Porsche
but a sports car isn't practical. When you want a Porsche but, but, but... This Porsche Cayenne gives you a glimpse into the life of an actual Porsche owner, with some added space and practicality. The Cayenne is at the base of the range and is a large five-seat SUV, competing with cars like the BMW X5 and the Range Rover Sport.

| | Jalopnik—I have but one ask of Porsche: everything they build needs to go racing. It doesn’t matter if we’re talking about the latest 911 or the new Panamera. It must go racing somewhere on principle.
Otherwise, I won’t accept it as a Porsche. Behold, the Porsche Macan race truck that we all deserve. LP Racing has been campaigning this race-prepped Porsche Macan in European rally raids, and it is glorious. Rally raids are big off-road races much like the Dakar Rally that kicks off this weekend. This Macan made its international debut at the 2016 Italian Baja race, where it made a big splash. Wait, no—several big splashes.
|
PCA—Those of us with a Cayenne know how versatile they are. We have chosen to explore their off-road capabilities traveling the roads less traveled to color outside those pesky yellow and white lines.
After our Cayenne diesel ‘Otis’ was featured in the December 2016 Pano, we have had others ask us for advice. We always start by asking them to define their own journey, to think about how and where they envision using their Cayenne.
