FORAGING FOR DANDELIONS
So, I'm a bit late because I should have foraged at the beginning of the spring before the dandelions bloomed. The longer we wait, the more bitter the leaves. However, I've also been told to wait before picking the dandelions because the bees should get the first crack at them. So, I let the bees have at them and then yesterday, I filled an 8 quart bowl to overflowing with dandelion flowers, greens, and a few roots.
BENEFITS OF DANDELIONS FOR DOGS
I've been adding dandelion greens to my dogs veggie mix when I can find them in the store. This year, I decided to be more proactive and foraged through our property. We have 5 acres of untreated lawn and plants - why pay for them when they're free outside my door?
Dandelion greens are great for...
- excellent source of antioxidants
- source of Vitamins A, C, E, and K
- source of iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium
- may control blood sugar
- may help decrease inflammation
- supports liver health
- may help with weight loss
- supports gut health
- boosts the immune system
- slows growth of cancer cells
There are many ways to add dandelion greens (and flowers/roots) to our dogs' diet. I'm adding the greens to
my veggie mix.
