My partner is a light sleeper (and he goes to bed earlier), so I sleep with one or two of the dogs. I've experienced all of the benefits. The main downside (for me) to sleeping with dogs is that it gets hot. So sometimes I sleep with an open window.
Downsides to Sleeping with Dogs...
The biggest downside to sleeping with dogs is lowering the quality of our sleep. Yes, most nights, I sleep deeply. But when I'm worried about a dog, if the dogs have gas, or if two dogs decide to share the bed with me, then I don't always sleep well. Why do they have to stretch diagonally across the bed? I don't sleep that way.
I've been told in the past that allowing dogs on the furniture makes them think that they are in charge - I disagree. I'm not a dog trainer or animal behaviorist, so I won't argue this theory. I can only share that this hasn't been my experience.
And, finally, I've read that sleeping with dogs can spread fleas and disease. Well, thanks to
a few natural
products, my dogs don't have fleas. And if sleeping with dogs can spread disease, then living with them does as well and after 11 year living with dogs, I'm still healthy. #KnockOnWood
