It's time for an update on Life with Five Dogs...
It's not easy, but it's getting better. Apollo is settling into the house and finding his place within the pack. He and Scout play all the time. He and Zoey like to watch the cat walk around. And Rodrigo and Sydney, our seniors, have accepted that he's going to be around.
We still have the occasional growling as dogs are setting boundaries and telling Apollo when enough is enough. But no fights, no bites, no drama.
The only thing left to conquer is separation anxiety. Apollo has a nice case and this is the first time I've dealt with a dog that suffered from separation anxiety. He doesn't harm himself or others, but he does need to be monitored and we have him on CBD oil daily, which helps a little.
I've spoken to his veterinarian and an animal behaviorist and they agree that it's going to take time. Apollo spent the first several months of his life alone in an apartment. He was separated from a home and his litter and then left along and was scared by all of the sounds that he couldn't identify. I've been told that he's basically going through PTSD and needs
patience, love, and consistency.
I'm also curious about his breed.
We were told that he's Golden Retriever / Siberian Husky mix: Read More Here
However, some people say that he looks more like a Golden Retriever / German Shepherd mix and when I did a Google image search, I agreed. So I purchased an Embark Vet DNA test to find out. So, do me a favorite and Google both breed mixes and tell me which one does Apollo most look like? Yeah, I know we can't tell a breed from images, but it does make me
curious about his mix.
