Hi
Thanks for being a loyal email subscriber. I appreciate hearing from you. Let me know if you ever have any questions. The following are a few questions that I received recently.
WHERE CAN I FIND ORGAN MEAT?
If you've started to look into DIY raw feeding, you may have noticed that options for secreting organs at the local grocery store are slim. You can find more options by checking out your local Asian/Ethnic markets, seeking out farmers and homesteaders who raise their own meat, looking for restaurant meat suppliers, and seeing if you have a local raw food co-op near you.
If you're still stuck on finding secreting organs, you can save yourself time by using a base mix. I prefer Dr. Harvey's Paradigm and Raw Vibrance. Although I start with a base of 80/10/10, which includes 10% secreting organs, I still use a base mix - I reduce the amount of base mix I use when doing meal prep. I like base mixes because they reduce the amount of supplements I need to add to my dogs' diet.
HOW DO I ADD BONE SAFELY TO MY DOGS' MEALS?
A lot of people are afraid to add bone because of the risk of a broken tooth, a blockage, or worse. It took me a while to get used to adding bones to my dogs' raw diet and what worked for me was to sit with them while they ate bones. This helped me understand which bones worked best for my dogs and which didn't. I always have high value treats on hand when I need to take the bones away.
Most of the food that I receive for my dogs is already ground. I spent all this money on a meat grinder and the only thing I grind are two cases of duck wings each month. Why? For the bone. My dogs get bone in their raw grinds and through duck wings, duck necks, and raw meaty bones (lamb legs, lamb necks).
Do you have a question? Let me know and I'll try to answer. Please keep in mind that I'm not a veterinarian or nutritionist. However, I love sharing my experience and learning from others.
