Happy Tuesday!!!
Thanks for being a loyal email subscriber. I appreciate hearing from you. Let me know if you ever have any questions. The following are a few questions that I received recently.
HOW DO WE FEED RAW BONES WITHOUT THE MESS?
I don't feed raw bones year around. We have lamb shanks and lamb necks in the freezer and those are for the summer (in fact, I need to thaw some out today) because the dogs are fed bones outside with a few exceptions:
Duck necks and sardines can be fed in my dogs' dishes without the mess. All other bone in my dogs' diet if fed ground. Either the food is pre-ground by the source (quail, beef, turkey) or I grind the food (duck wings).
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE MESS?
For folks who do feed their dogs raw meaty bones in the house, the following keeps the mess down:
- feed the dogs on a tarp
- feed the dogs in a crate/kennel
- feed the dogs on tile/linoleum
I monitor my dogs during meal times, when they eat chews, and when they eat raw meaty bones to be on hand just in case something goes wrong and to keep the faster chewers from sniffing around and bothering the others.
Do you have a question? Let me know and I'll try to answer. Please keep in mind that I'm not a veterinarian or nutritionist. However, I love sharing my experience and learning from others.
