It's that time of year again. The time of the year when right after stuffing ourselves full of turkey, we fight the tryptophan coma to get some must needed shopping done. I've created a page listing all of this year's Black Friday deals and some are epic, y'all.

CHANGES TO KEEP THE TAIL WAGGING

After losing Sydney, I slowed down a bit with the blog and thought about what I wanted to do next. In Sydney's last weeks with me, she gave me the beautiful gift of knowledge; her sacrifice will allow me to take better care of my other dogs and it helped me look at the world differently. I'm so thankful for that time we had together.

Keep the Tail Wagging is now a lifestyle blog and will no longer focus solely on dog nutrition. There is more to raising healthy dogs than food and I want to explore all aspects of raising my dogs, including taking better care of myself and my mental health.

WHAT I LEARNED FROM SYDNEY

This has been a tough year and I struggled a lot and I know that I'm not alone. When the protests began, I had a lot of feelings about what it is to be a black woman in America and I had a lot of amazing conversations about race relations in our country and around the world. I learned so much about myself and others - specifically that we have a lot more in common than we realize - and I wanted everyone to join these chats, but I understand that this isn't a part of everyone's journey.

With the pandemic, the protests, the riots, and the elections, I found that it's important to listen to people and understand where they're coming from and that is what I learned from Sydney. She gave me the opportunity to slow down and listen to her and I extended that to everyone in my life and I'm so thankful that I did because I so appreciate the life that I have and my friends and family so much more.

This has been a tough year and, for me at least, it's been a year of blessings. Thank you for supporting me through my blogging journey and the loss of my sweet girl. I wish you a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving Day.

I decided to take a break from my new blog, Dog Mom Style, to focus on Keep the Tail Wagging, which is now a lifestyle blog.

Raw Dog Food Recipe

This is a bulk raw food recipe for 4 dogs that weigh between 60 lbs and 73 lbs. I didn't use the Animal Diet Formulator to "balance" this meal. I created on the fly.

INGREDIENTS

3-3/4 cups of raw goat's milk
1 pint of kefir from Answers Pet Food
4 eggs (optional)

TODAY IS FASTING DAY!!!

I fast my dogs once a week to give their gut a break. Our gut isn't supposed to be constantly digesting food. It's nice to give it a break (behind when we're sleeping at night) so that our immune system is at it's optimal level (80% of the immune system is in the gut).

I do a modified fast because Sydney used to get hunger pukes. Although Sydney is no longer with us, I still prefer a modified fast for my dogs. The above ingredients are for one meal. The boys get 1 cup of raw goat's milk each and Zoey gets 3/4 cup (she tend to gain weight easily). I split a pint of kefir between all of the dogs equally.

I will repeat this meal in the evening. Some weeks, their evening meal will be a raw meaty bone or bone broth.

SUPPLEMENTS

I don't add supplements on fasting day beyond the Enzyme Diane supplement for Rodrigo, who has EPI. Some weeks, I will add a raw egg to the morning meal. I didn't do that this week because they had raw eggs yesterday. I prefer not to feed my dogs raw eggs every day (usually 3x a week).
