Hi
Nearly a year after I started feeding a raw food diet, I nearly quit because it became too expensive. I was feeding premade raw and we were raising four dogs. So I decided to take the leap into DIY raw feeding and started buying shopping cards full of meat from the grocery
store. That didn't work for us so I had to find new ways to source food and thankfully another local raw feeding introduced me to a raw food co-op.
If you're looking for ways to source food for your dogs at a reasonable price, the following works for me and many of my
friends:
- Butchers/Local Farmers - ask what happens to the trim, do they toss it? Will they sell it to you (or, even better, give it to you)?
- Facebook Marketplace/Craigslist - I found my rabbit supplier on Facebook.
- Hunters - take what they don't keep, but before you do this, check the laws in your State, because some States don't allow hunters to give away or sell scraps.
- Asian
Markets - the variety is amazing.
The best resource that I've found is people. Making friends with other local raw feeders has opened the door to many opportunities which has saved me money.

When I began researching what it would take to feed raw, I quickly became overwhelmed and a bit intimidated. Some of those raw feeding groups are intense. eventually found my tribe, experienced a lot of wins and losses as a new raw feeder, and then found my
stride. I share everything in my book, A Novice's Guide to Raw Feeding for Dogs, to save others the stress of learning how to feed raw..

Raw feeding is a marathon, not a sprint, and I'm always learning new things and I created a list of the resources that help me feed my dogs and cat.
