Third times a charm. I started with a yogurt starter I ordered online, but it didn't work. Then I found a simply recipe on YouTube and 6 hours later, we had yogurt!
INGREDIENTS...
- 1/2 gallon organic whole milk
- 1/2 cup organic plain yogurt
DIRECTIONS...
- add ingredients to Instant Pot, whisk until well blended
- set IP to Yogurt for 6 hours, seal and wait
- when done, transfer to glass containers
I was able to make two full jars of yogurt. It'll stay good in the fridge for 10 days. And when I make a larger batch, I can freeze the extra along with the raw goat's milk and kefir I stocked up on last year.
HOW I FEED YOGURT TO MY DOGS...
I decided to start making yogurt because I don't know what's going to happen to Kure Pet Food and Answers Pet Food. I stocked up on plenty of their products, but they won't last forever. Plus, it's so easy and affordable to make some of these things at home.
My primary focus when feeding my dogs is their gut health. 70-80% of the immune system lives in the gut and I think if I keep their guts healthy, then their immune system can work to keep them healthy. This is why kefir, raw goat's milk, and now yogurt are a big part of their diet.
After a consultation with a veterinarian who cured lymphoma in her dog, I changed how I feed my dogs. They now enjoy a high fat, moderate protein, low carb meal several evenings a week, which includes;
- raw goat's milk and kefir (mixed, or just kefir)
- a heaping spoonful of yogurt
- a soft boiled egg
- a spoonful of mixed veggies, Green Juju, or green beans
I used to fast the dogs twice a week, but with Scout on prednisone, he's always hungry and fasting won't work right now.
I feed this high fat diet to reduce inflammation (Rodrigo and Scout), encourage weight loss (Zoey), and Apollo is perfect, but he can benefit from this diet too. Someone asked me if this wires the dogs up in the evenings and it doesn't.
