With Memorial Day Weekend coming up, many people are making plans with family and looking forward to a long weekend. I'm visiting the websites of several of my favorite brands to see what type of specials they have planned for the weekend.
So far...
Real Dog Box: Thursday 5/19 - Friday 5/20 BOGO Sale, Everyone who signs up for a Treat and Chew box ($37) gets their second box
free!
Chewy.com: Now thru Thursday 5/26, Chewy.com is offering up to 30% off on selected items, including...
2 - Automatically Apply Discount Codes
There are services that will automatically search for online discount codes when you shop online. I've only recently starting using one of these services and the discounts it finds are often better than the ones I planned to use.
Here are the three services that I've heard most about...
Today, I saved 25% off of an AnimalBiome testing kit for Scout. Stay tuned for an updated review.
3 - Check with Local, Independent Pet Stores
Julz Animal Hous, a local pet store, offers 20% off all fresh food products (raw, freeze-dried, dehydrated - food, chews, and treats) the first Wednesday of the month. I used this discount when I was stocking up on Kure Pet Food products.
Check in with your local pet store to see if they offer any special deals like this for customers.
4 - Consult with a Professional
As I'm sure you can imagine, raising a dog that is living with cancer can be expensive. So I reached out to a local holistic veterinarian to gain feedback on the cancer protocol that I developed for Scout. Thanks to the consultation, I removed SIX supplements from his protocol, which saves me a lot of money. I replaced them with one supplement and acupuncture treatments, which are less expensive because the acupuncture is covered by
insurance.
Stay tuned for an updated protocol coming soon.
5 - Buy Human Instead of Pet Products
I used to replace my dogs' stainless steel dishes every few years. Although Basis dog dishes are supposed to be the best, I wanted a dish that allowed me to spread my dogs' food out (so the food smells didn't overwhelm my dogs).
Instead of searching for an expensive pet dish, I purchased pasta dishes. I got a pack of four for an affordable price.
PRO TIP: Determine a max price per pound that you're comfortable paying for meat and don't go above that price unless you have plenty of savings to cover the higher price point. It's fun to feed a wide variety of proteins, but it's more affordable when I to stick to three or four proteins.
Avoiding "Made in China?"
Whenever I post about a cool new product, at least one person will ask if it's made in China. Personally, this isn't a major concern because I'm confident that 80% of the items in my home were made overseas. However, if you're concerned about products that are made in China, there's an easy solution - Etsy! I love Etsy because I'm able to find unique, creative products and I'm supporting small business owners.
