DNA+Health Tests
When Bella's litter arrived in our rescue, I knew their breed mix. One of the puppies were tested with Wisdom Panel and while I know that each puppy can have a different breed mix, they all look so much alike that I was confident the WP results were accurate.
Plus, she was a foster, so what do I care? Famous last words.
Now that Bella is member of the family, I sent off for a DNA+Health test. I chose Embark Vet because although Wisdom Panel is very accurate, Embark Vet provides so much more.
- connect with siblings and other relatives - mutts don't always have a health history and these
connections can give us a heads up of any potential health issues
- estimated size and weight - people keep saying her paws are big, but she's still small for her size and I wonder if her size will be more like a Heeler or small Husky instead of a GSD.
- genetic markers - because of the Heeler in her DNA, I need to know if she will have any issue with medication. I can email
the health portion of her test to our veterinarian. This has saved me money with the vet in the past.
- wolfiness score - our dogs are descended from wolves, but how much wolf is in our puppies. With my pack, Apollo (50% Husky) has the highest wolfiness score.
These are just a few things off the top of my head.
Embark was having a sale when I ordered Bella's kit.
And a new sale starts tomorrow - Code BESTDOG.
