Can Dogs Eat Molasses?
Last week, I shared that I was looking for dog treat recipes to try and several called for ingredients that I wanted to research before feeding them to my dogs.
One of those ingredients was molasses. I'm currently writing an article about the risk and benefits of molasses for dogs. For now, I'm happy to share that blackstrap molasses is what we should use in dog treat recipes.
Molasses is a sweet, dark, viscous liquid that's a byproduct of sugar production. There are three types of molasses—light, dark, and blackstrap—each with varying degrees of sweetness and nutritional content.
Blackstrap molasses is a result of the third boiling of sugar cane juice. It's less sweet, but it's also high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, specifically B vitamins, iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
