Weekly Raw Feeding Tip
With the rise in dog owners showing interest in feeding raw or home cooked diet to their dogs, I'm getting a lot of questions and requests for consultations. I love that so many people are interested in raw feeding, but I'm a little frightened by the amount of
misinformation being shared in raw feeding groups by well intentioned dog lovers.
3 reasons I don't offer canine nutrition consultations:
1 - I'm Not Qualified
I have more than ten years of experience as a raw feeder, but this experience is focused on my dogs. I'm not qualified to advise on the health and diet for dogs I don't know. Although I've taken many online courses in canine nutrition and can
officially add CPCN to my name, I still don't feel qualified to offer consultations to dog owners,
2 - Practicing Medicine without a License
I feel that nutrition and health go hand in hand and I worry that offering canine nutrition consultations without working alongside a veterinarian would equate to practicing medicine without a license. I don't know what questions to ask dog owners to figure out if I need to adjust a diet to address a health issue (and I don't know how).
3 - I Don't Want to Hurt a Dog
My lack of knowledge and experience as a professional canine nutritionist can lead to mistakes happening. I don't want to risk harming a dog by giving the wrong health or nutritional
advice.
Free Raw Dog Food Recipes
I do offer free raw dog food recipes on my blog, however, it's important to
know that these recipes, which are often formulated using Animal Diet Formulator software, were created for my dogs and aren't generic dog food recipes. I share them to give others an idea of what they can feed their dogs.
