** Giveaway Update **
Thank you for participating in the giveaway. Due to the amazing response, I plan to host a giveaway once a month, with future prizes by Oncotect (at home cancer screening kit), Earth Buddy Pet, Real Mushrooms, Dr. Harvey's, and more. Many of these
gifts I'll pay for out of pocket, so future giveaways won't be as extravagant.
Kibble vs. Raw...AGAIN!
I've
been following two situations on social media. One is a growing concern about kibble and the other is related to a popular raw food brand. In both cases, my heart breaks for the dogs that have been lost. Something is clearly going on, but it's not 100% clear what it is - everyone is still guessing and waiting for the science to reveal the problem. In the meantime, l've been following the discussions intently.
Overthinking Again
I've been sick with the flu and when that happens, I tend to overthink everything. As I lay in bed scrolling through my phone, I caught up on a lot of discussions and I came to
a conclusion.
People think questioning a brand (or a cause) equates to telling someone they're wrong.
When I ask someone for evidence that kibble is harming dogs, what I'm looking for are
lab results that show a brand is responsible for making dogs sick. I don't know how hard this is, how much this would cost - but I do know that it's necessary to force a recall or file a lawsuit.
When I ask why a dog suddenly died from eating a raw food they've been consuming for a year, I'm not suggesting that the brand or the dog owner did
something wrong. I'm asking where in the process (formulation, mixing, packaging, shipping, delivery, storage, feeding) did something go wrong.
I ask questions to learn and protect my dogs. We all love our dogs and want to do our best and asking questions is how we learn.
Sadly, the pet food industry has let us down, so I can understand the immediate distrust when faced with sick dogs. And the raw food brand in question is beloved, so I can understand why some feel protective. I try to understand both sides of a situation, especially when we're still waiting on the facts.
So, keep asking questions.
