Green JuJu Product Reviews
Green JuJu now has frozen dog food and a fermented mushroom product. My dogs tried them last week and the following are my initial thoughts.
FROZEN RABBIT & DUCK LIVER RECIPE
The ingredients and sourcing are amazing. The rabbits are humanely raised. The ducks are pasture-raised. The recipe is organ rich aka nutrient rich. This is a limited ingredient, balanced recipe without synthetic vitamins.
INGREDIENTS: Whole rabbit (with bone), duck liver, organic dandelion greens, organic kelp, vitamin E supplement
Green JuJu's rabbit recipe is a greyish color often seen with HPP products. My dogs don't have an issue with HPP foods and, based on new information shared by Green JuJu, high pressure
pasteurization doesn't impact the nutrients as previously believed.
This food is outside my budget and I can't afford it regularly. The 6 lb frozen rabbit recipe is $70 (I got it on sale for $49 or $8.16/lb). I buy the freeze-dried recipe for my cat (he loves it), but don't plan to buy the frozen recipes again.
WILD FERMENTED MUSHROOM PROBIOTIC
This is a cool
concept. I very much believe in variety with fermented/probiotic foods and supplements because a healthy microbiome is varied.
Many culinary mushrooms double as functional mushrooms, which are a hot topic right now, so fermenting them is brilliant. The mushrooms
in this ferment are cremini, shiitake, and oyster. These are most known for longevity and boosting the immune system and gut health.
I appreciate that they chose different mushrooms than what were used to seeing recommended.
I
made the mistake of following the recommended dosage and it didn't go well with my dogs, all of which had digestive issues. When I reduced the dosage from tablespoons to 1 teaspoon each, they did just fine.
This product has a strong taste and smell. It's very
mushroom-y and I can taste the cremini mushrooms. Zoey doesn't like strong scents, but mixing a small amount into her food doesn't bother her.
The bottle is small at 8 ounces and has a clear recommendation to use within 14 days. Others gave me the idea to thaw partially and freeze in smaller amounts to avoid waste (since I'm giving my
dogs less than what's recommended).
One 8 ounce bottle is $10. I can pick it up for $8 on a monthly sale at a local pet store, but only if I arrive before it sells out due to it's popularity. By only giving my dogs 1 tsp daily and alternating it with other
probiotics, one bottle will last a long time, making the price more digestible, allowing me to buy a bottle occasionally.
INGREDIENTS: Organic cremini mushroom, organic shiitake mushroom, organic oyster mushroom, sea salt
FEEDING DIRECTIONS: Thaw in fridge, shake and pour over any type of meal. Use within 14 days of thawing.
SUGGESTED SERVINGS: 5-25 lbs: 1 tsp, 25-50 lbs: 4 tsp, 50-75 lbs: 2 tbsp, 75-100 lbs: 3 tbsp
