Dog Treat Recipe
When it comes to dog treats, I don't worry about being exact with ingredients because my dogs won't judge. If you want to try the below recipe, have fun with it, change up the ingredients, and get creative!!!
BEEF "NON-JERKY"
TREATS
I prefer my treats to be crunchy because if Zoey can't chew it, she'll try and swallow a treat whole.
INGREDIENTS: Lean ground beef, Grandma Lucy's freeze-dried pet food (your choice)
SUPPLIES: Parchment paper, pizza roller (or knife), rolling pin, spatula, dehydrator
Mix the ingredients together, place a large
ball on parchment paper, and cover with a 2nd sheet of parchment paper. Use the rolling pin to roll flat (thickness is up to you). Remove top parchment paper and use pizza roller (or knife) to cut the meat into strips. Transfer strips to the dehydrator.
I dehydrate at 150-155F (66-68C) for 10-12 hours (depending on the thickness of
the strips) for the crunchy results.
I separate my treats into quart-size freezer bags, and freeze until needed. I have three dogs, and we go through one bag within a few days.
SHAKE IT UP
The above recipe can easily turn into multiple recipes by using a different lean protein like turkey, chicken, or lamb, and adding:
seafood: canned salmon, canned oysters, canned tuna
organ meat: ground or chopped up chicken gizzards, liver, or hearts
dried herbs: spirulina, garlic (I use Bug Off granules), nettles, ginger, wheatgrass
nuts and seeds: chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds
fiber: canned pumpkin or sweet potatoes
And, Grandma Lucy's has multiple recipes, including chicken, beef, salmon, pork, turkey, fish, rabbit, and venison. Or you can use another brand or skip this ingredient. I use it as a healthy binder to hold everything together.
