5 Reasons I'm Not Loyal to Brands
1 - Every Dog is Different
What
works for one dog may not work for another. Trying different products from varying brands helps to customize each of my dog's nutrition/diet plan. This was one of many lessons I learned from Rodrigo, who had a different diet and supplement regimen than my other dogs.
2 - Formulation Changes
Formulation changes can result in a product no longer being a good fit for one of my dogs. There are many reasons a brand changes their formulation. But all it takes is one ingredient that my dog can't eat and I can longer purchase the product.
3 - Price Increases
Price increases are unavoidable in many cases; the rising cost of ingredients in a food or supplement will eventually need to be passed on to the customer in order for a brand to stay in business. Over the past year, several
proteins that were staples in my dogs' diet are no longer affordable.
4 - Availability
In 2021, a change in ownership of a popular raw food brand
lead to me buying every local pet store's inventory of fermented fish stock, because there was a rumor that the product would be discontinued.
5 - New Information
We're always learning. There are several raw food brands and supplements I no longer buy for my pets because I've learned more about canine nutrition, and found products that are a better fit for my dogs.
Leaders in the Raw Feeding
Community
I no longer follow many of the leaders in the raw feeding community - veterinarians, influencers, and online magazines. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't use their products if they worked for my dogs. My dogs are my priority - not my ego or the latest drama.
With all that's happening in the world, if my only critique of someone is that they hurt my feelings one time, I can let that go. No one's perfect, not everyone will get along, but if a famous veterinarian makes a product that extends our dogs' lives or cures cancer - I'll be the first to ask, "do you Venmo?"
