Winter reminds us that everyone and everything needs some quiet.
~Katrina Mayer
After the mad rush and intensity of the holidays, it is a relief to just have a moment of peace & quiet. This year, I was forced to do this having fallen ill with the dreaded virus and though it was not totally pleasant, I was secretly happy for an excuse to have some quiet time.
Can you relate?
We are all addicted to being busy. Even those of us that "know" this and have purposefully done things to slow down our rushed & hectic lifestyles, it is still an addiction we are all prone to fall into. January is about planning, preparing, making resolutions, about reviewing the past, making to-do lists for the next 12 months. Well, though this is often one of my favourite things to do, it also can be exhausting. Having the forced week in bed with only enough
brain power to read a book, it was really lovely to have some quiet come into my soul again. It raised some hidden feelings for me too, however, this too has its own rewards.
We must slow down to a human tempo and we'll begin to have time to listen.
~Thomas Menton
After finally feeling healthy again, I was able to go for a stroll by the beach the other day. Watching the few people on the winter beach with their dogs was mesmerising. It was like watching JOY in action.
Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and our intelligence aglow.
~Helen Keller
Allowing JOY to come into our lives is a subtle thing. When we are too busy to notice the smallest of miracles, sense the calm in a delicious cup of tea, the fulfilling experience of watching the dogs dance with joy on the beach, we are missing much of what makes life magical.
It is in the slower moments that we often can see things more clearer. And feel them more deeply. Reconnecting with our senses is a powerful thing and one that can bring you closer to yourself.
Slowing down is a power move.
January, and winter in general, is a great season to slow down, regroup and to start to plan and dream. It is not about rushing through this so you can get started being busy again. Take your time. Plan, dream, prepare. Doing this during my week of being "sick" was a hidden gem.
If one of the dreams you come up with during your quiet moments enjoying your cup of tea is about changing something in your space, please reach out to me and we can chat together through your ideas.
