This past weekend we celebrated both the Summer Solstice, the beginning of summer and the longest day of the year, as well as, Junteenth, the day to commemorate when freedom was given to those unjustly enslaved in the United States of America. What a glorious way
to celebrate!
However, it seems as we transition into the lazy days of summer, we are paradoxically in the midst of a battle for equality and the deepening need for an honest awareness of our true selves.
History is not a burden on the memory but
an illumination of the soul.
This need for balance is as perennial as the trees and as long as humans have been alive. The challenges continue to flow towards us, and we continue to try to ride the waves. We must not stop this effort to re-balance.
As we enter the season of traditionally slowing down, I am filled with hope that we will continue to connect, reflect and grow together now that we are allowed outside again and have had to transform so much of our expectations this year already. Let's keep the momentum of seeing more clearly and fighting for a better world.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.
Another positive achievement to celebrate this weekend was the launch of a dream of mine. A creative-collaboration resulting in an online virtual class, Re-Connecting with the 5 Senses & 5 Elements. Despite our collective challenges during this year, we were able to stay on track and have our first class!
Do you celebrate your successes, even if they are small ones? I had to learn this...
Living a life of my passion is not always a straight and simple path. Often I have felt very alone and lost. Breaking the rules to follow your own intuition is not always easy though for me, it often did not feel like a choice. My inner compass was stronger than my need to conform. Teaching this course is an inner vision of mine about helping to make sustainable living the norm again. I feel this
is in alignment with the greater need now surfacing for all humans to be in alignment with one another and for there to be a bigger sense of balance & equality between us all.
Today, as we rise & shine into the sunny days of summer, I invite you to start walking to the beat of your own drummer and follow your own heart. Right now we are in the pivotal moment in history, and we need to start living in balance again. Balance in our own heart & soul, balance in the world and balance with our community. And of course, balance in your home is your foundation.
If a man (or woman) does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he (she) hears the beat of a different drummer. ~ Thoreau
Historically our homes were our center of security & safety, nurturing & self-care, intimacy & community. It is a reflection of your inner self.
Let's start to make this part of our new normal.
