Today we embark on a new journey with a brand new Commander-in-Chief at the White House in the USA. It has been a long path to this destination, no matter what side of the fence you live on. It is an opportunity to start something new again. It provides us HOPE which is essential to our
survival.
The road to today has been challenging to say the least, as has the whole last year has been a tough year for sure. Yet, in my heart, I believe that we all have the same intentions in mind. We all want peace, prosperity, liberty.
Yet, our goals on how to get there seem to be very, very (very!) different.
I believe that one of the major differences is that most people do not fully recognise the difference between an INTENTION and a GOAL.
You see, for a long time I did not recognise the difference and therefore was living towards goal setting and chasing versus the more powerful intention creation and believing. It is a subtle but very powerful difference.
Let me share more. An intention is a broad based vision of something grounded in your values & belief systems that you want, but not being totally tied to a specific outcome. I mean you are open to how it will show up, and are not living in an exact outcome.
A goal, on the other hand, is a very specific expectation on exactly how you want something to turn out. It is almost like you are ordering something online or from a restaurant and you know exactly how it should turn up. And if it does not show up just so, well, you are disappointed.
Disappointed is the word I have heard the most this past year. It is something I had to change inside myself because this emotion was draining my soul and digging a hole that I was not going to be able to climb out of if I did not change it.
Seriously, it has taken me my whole life to deeply integrate this fundamental difference. I learned this lesson the hard way - through trial and error. I was a big GOAL setter and had very strong opinions on how things needed to turn out. Anyone who has known me for awhile knows this and you have witnessed the shift.
Luckily I was given the gift to change my vision from how to why. Today I have learned my lesson and I strive to set INTENTIONS for myself that are in alignment with my values and then work & wait to see how it will manifest in my life. And I can share that I experience much more JOY than before.
Intentions create a bridge between where you are now and where you want to go.
This year my intentions include radiating more joy into the world, being more kind to myself and others, working on serving others with my gifts and sharing all my abundance with as many people as I can. Of course I also have the intention of building a strong foundation for myself and my family that provides a safe, secure harbour to provide refuge in the strongest of storms.
The beginning is the most important part of work.
~ Plato
What are your intentions for this year? Do you include only yourself, or do you include your community and the world at large?
Embracing the chance for a NEW BEGINNING is like grabbing a life raft of hope. Today, I feel hopeful. I believe that we have a chance to work together towards a more peaceful and prosperous world for us all.
Joy is not in things, it is in us.
~Richard Wagner
Do you feel that there is room for more JOY in your life? We can start a New Beginning with the creation of a joyful space together.
