Some of my personal sustainable living tips for a more eco-conscious holiday are below. These are things that I have started implementing into my own life and hope that you find these ideas fun and useful in your life too.
Home Helper Gift Idea.
Offer your services to help get a home improvement project done that someone you know needs but cannot do alone. Re-tiling a kitchen backsplash, painting a bedroom, or removing that horrible old wallpaper and rehanging new. Tough jobs to do alone and the kind of precious gift that will be a reminder of your love all the year through.
Give only gifts that matter.
Spend time, create an adventure, or bake something delicious. If you have to give a present, try to buy local and from small businesses. No one needs more clutter but a thoughtful gift that has practical and heartfelt love in it always makes the season brighter.
Holiday Decor.
Rethink your traditional way of decorating and start to think long term. There are a million posts on the pros/cons to a traditional tree but I can share my new tradition is a driftwood tree and I adore it because I know it is a sustainable choice. Also using old family ornaments instead of buying new. Or making some garland from dried oranges and cinnamon sticks are all great ways to brighten the decor of your home without harming the planet plus they can
smell amazing too!
Gift Wrapping.
Stop being ashamed of hoarding the old ribbons and start thinking of wrapping with newspapers, brown bags or even old clothing. Wrapping gifts can be creative and fun without having to be expensive or wasteful. I use old xmas cards and cut them up to recreate new ones or for package decorations. Fun, creative plus a way to show your love too!
