The Earth has music, for those that listen.
~Shakespeare
Spring is springing here where I live. It is an opening process and one that has me filled with hope but also I feel int eh pit of my stomach a sense of dread. Why you ask? Well, because the fact that Spring sprang here in February was a sure sign that nature is out of alignment. The fact that I adore the blossoming Dogwood trees that line the pedestrian streets here in San Sebastian, Spain is not the point. The fact they already have bloomed and fallen by
now is a hard thing to ignore. If I am confused, what about the birds?
The ONE THING we all have in common is the Earth.
Being a designer that focuses on the HOME, I have a connection with our greater HOME, the Planet too. There is no time like the present to start taking positive action for all of your spaces because one cannot thrive without the other. On year ago, on Earth Day 2020, despite the pandemic, we had cause for celebration because the pause we had globally taken had started the healing process in the Earth. Do you recall the many photos and stories we saw that
demonstrated this? Of course, this cuts both ways and the other losses we experienced are real too. It is about BALANCE and moderation of extremes.
2021 Theme: Restore Our Earth
My HOLISTIC DESIGN approach focused on BALANCE in your home, in the things you bring into and create your home with. It is a very lomb-term and is SUSTAINABLE approach. I recognised it was not just about creating pretty spaces, but it was about making long-term, grander plans than just the surface deep. We can't destroy
things for our own instant gratifaction and feel good about it.Eventually this will work against us in more obvious ways than the mainstream world is willing to 'see'.
No matter how small of a project, or how little money you have to spend, you can make wiser choices that have a greater green impact. Design has the ability to change behaviour too and if you design your home in a way to enhance sustainable living choices, then it will become your new 'norm'.
What are you doing right now that can change to be more green?
Green is the new Black.
Last year offered us an insight into a slower, more sustainable world. The forced lockdown was tough but we can learn from it and keep the lessons that are worthwhile for a newer, greener future.
Maybe on this Earth Day you can start. Just one small step. Click on this Earth Day 2021and see what you can do. Share it. Change one habit. Start to think more green.
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot nothing is going to get better. It's not.
~ Dr. Suess
This is heavy, no? Such a tough topic to always manage and in a still crazy world. So we have to also learn to laugh, smile and enjoy the journey along the way. Of course, striving for some positive new habits along the way.
