Your Gal in the WSJ!

Nita Sweeney

Dear :

Are you sitting down? I wasn't!

I nearly fell over when I opened an email from Ellen Gamerman of the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). She was asking about my next book, Make Every Move a Meditation, which only went live on Amazon last week.

Her article "Trick Your Brain Into a Better Workout," including a mention of my new book and a photo of the pupperina and I running, appeared online this morning. It might be in a print edition later. If you get the WSJ in print and see the piece, please save that section of the paper for me!

I know. I know. Shameless self-promo. Let's see if it will shift into something helpful.

Here's what I noticed while I was talking to the Arts and Culture Reporter from the WSJ.

  • Pleasant sensations: a warm glow in my belly and tingling radiating upward across my chest, throat and face.
  • Unpleasant sensations: that same warm throat felt tight. A sense of self-consciousness arose because I was talking too quickly.
  • Neutral sensations: the touch of my shirt against my arm and the temperature of the room.
  • Thoughts: "What if I get this wrong?" and "Is this real?"

Gratefully, I have a practice.

I had "house jogged" earlier in the morning so the happy brain chemicals were working. I'd done a ten-minute timed writing practice about my anxiety which morphed into what message I wanted to share about the book. And finally, while I was on the phone, I scanned my body, noted sensations, and allowed them to do their little dance and pass away.

Now, typing this, that's all at play again: ever changing, up and down and all around. I want to hold the pleasant, and push away the unpleasant and neutral. When I can let it all be impermanent, the beauty is exquisite.

But like everything else, I am a process, a work in progress. Ever changing.

Thank you for accompanying me on this wild ride!

~ Nita

HOUSE JOGGING ANYONE?

It's exactly like it sounds. On days when I can't make myself go outside to run, I jog around the 1600 square feet of our ranch house. Sometimes my "route" includes "hurdles" when the pupperina chooses my path for her snoozing spot or a "distraction" when the husband steps out of his office as I'm trotting down the hall.

Do you have a creative way to move or a creative way to make sure you get in your movement? I love to hear how people exercise.
