Never Give In!
"Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when
he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life
which the Lord has promised to those who love Him."
James 1: 12
It was the leadership of Winston Churchill that inspired the British
people to repel Nazi Germany’s attempted takeover of the island
nation. In the House of Commons in 1940 Churchill said,
“We shall never surrender.”
Sixteen months later, speaking to the students at Harrow School,
his alma mater, Churchill said, “Never give in, never give in, never,
never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—
never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.”
Perseverance and commitment are among the most
cherished of human values. And they have a role to
play in the spiritual life.
The apostle James wrote about never giving in to temptation, about
persevering in the paths of righteousness—for which there will be a
reward: “He'll receive the crown of life which the Lord has
promised
to those who love Him.” England’s reward for perseverance
was
freedom; the Christian’s reward is the crown of eternal
life.
Never give in to the temptation to stop
persevering, and the crown of life
is
yours.
"Today, let us rise and go to our work.
Tomorrow, we shall rise and go to our
reward."
Richard Fuller
