Glorify And Enjoy!
"Father, glorify Your name."
John 12: 28
There’s a famous question and answer in the Westminster
Shorter
Catechism we should always remember: What is the chief end of
man? Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.
Jerry Bridges said there was a time in his life when he thought
these were two different aims. He would glorify God on earth
and enjoy Him in heaven. But he learned
differently.
“The truth is…we can't glorify God, either by our lives or by worship,
unless we're enjoying Him. How can you praise someone whom you
don’t enjoy? How can you genuinely seek to honor someone by your
conduct merely out of a sense of obligation?”
John Piper puts it this way:
“The chief end of man is to glorify
God by enjoying Him forever.”
Jesus had one goal in life—to glorify the Father. No matter the
culture or circumstances, our lives can do the same. Cultivate a
joyful relationship with Him, one marked by faith, obedience, and
cheerfulness. One that constantly says: “Lord, glorify Your name
in me today!”
"If we’re to glorify God in the way we live,
we must make God’s glory our primary aim."
