Resistance Armor!
"Therefore submit to God.
Resist the devil and he
will flee from you."
James 4: 7
Many zoos have indoor viewing areas that look out on
to a wild animal habitat. Nothing separates children
from, say, a roaring lion but a wall of thick glass.
A child that may be devoured by a lion in the wild is safe
while standing just inches from the animal. An “invisible”
shield of protection is the difference between life and death.
The Bible says the devil is like a roaring lion walking about, seeking
someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Yet the Bible says we're protected
from “the wiles of the devil” by the “whole armor of God”
(Ephesians
6:11). The invisible spiritual armor of God is our protection
(Ephesians
6:10-18).
We employ that armor by resisting the devil, causing him to flee from
us. Jesus is the model for how to resist the devil. He resisted the
devil
in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-10) and “the devil left Him” (verse 11).
And Jesus resisted the devil when he tried to use Peter to argue with
Him (Matthew 16:23).
We invoke the armor of God when we submit to
God and resist the devil. He is obligated to flee
from us when we do.
"The devil shall never lift his head …
higher than the saint’s heel."
