FEATURED INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY #1: The Opportunity: Earn up to 5% and Help Weavers Way Co-op Expand Healthy Food Access to GermantownDetails: Weavers Way Co-op, in business since 1973, seeks to open its fourth store in Germantown in a building that once operated as an Acme
Market. This project has transformational powers: it will help revitalize an important commercial corridor, create 45 high-quality jobs, support hundreds of local farms and food businesses, including BIPOC-owned vendors, provide educational and nutritional opportunities for the public, and address a lack of healthy foods in a low income neighborhood. To support the project, co-op members (you can easily become one) are invited to provide a loan to the Co-op and earn interest: 2.5% for 4 years, 4% for 6 years, or 5% for 8 years. Simple, not compound interest. $1000 minimum. Must be a co-op member ($30 equity investment) and a
Pennsylvania resident. Email Kathleen Casey and Stu Katz at [email protected] for information.Alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): |
FEATURED INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY #2: The Opportunity: First Step Staffing is raising $25M to eliminate homelessness (Female led)Details: Over 500,000 people in the US are experiencing homelessness and most have little opportunity to change their situation. With the vision of becoming America’s jobs solution to homelessness, First Step Staffing has grown to become the largest alternative staffing agency in the US. In 2018, FSS expanded into Philadelphia, funded by grants and low interest loans from various players (individual investors, foundations, and CDFIs). The Philly branch now employs 400+ people/week and paid out $18M in wages last year. FSS is now raising $25M to offer additional services, upgrade operational capacity, and expand into new markets. First Step is looking for lenders open to loans with interest between 2-10% and five year payment terms. These loans will be part of subordinate term debt that include a capital stack.
