FEATURED INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY #1: The Opportunity: jawnt is Raising Final $1M of $4M Seed Round to Promote Sustainable TransportationThe Details: If public transit was used for 33% of all urban passenger trips, we would save 10–15 gigatons of carbon emissions from cars. Employers that promote transit options to employees are able to meet sustainability goals, better engage employees, and take advantage of valuable tax benefits. jawnt makes shared transit the best way to move around our cities. Through jawnt’s unified transit platform, employers give riders access to every bus, subway, bike, and scooter. Since launching the product in 2022, jawnt
is managing transit benefits for large enterprise customers and working closely with major transit agencies including SEPTA and Indego. jawnt is raising a $4M seed round, led by Crossbeam Ventures, to expand the
depth of their product offerings and grow into new markets. There is ~$1mm unallocated. jawnt is a Philly-based company led by founders with deep experience building and selling technology in legacy industries. FEATURED INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY #2: The Opportunity: Fair Trade Outsourcing is Raising a Series A to Combat Global PovertyThe Details: Fair Trade Outsourcing (FTO) is an anti-poverty company based in Philadelphia that delivers best-in-class global back-office services while lifting its employees from poverty to prosperity. Founded in 2016 to generate both social and financial profits, FTO has grown at a 5-year compound annual growth rate of 50% and has 1500 employees worldwide. The outsourced business process service industry makes >$300B/year and employs
14M people. However, many companies in this industry focus solely on cost-cutting. FTO’s theory of change embeds a development economics system into the fabric of the company. Policies and programs such as compensation and benefits (paying a living wage), social insurance ( disaster grants), and guaranteed opportunity (non-job free learning) focus on lifting employees and their households out of poverty and reliably into the middle class. In the past 7 years, FTO has lifted 6,000 people
out of poverty. FTO’s ultimate goal is to help 1 million people escape poverty over the next 25 years. The company is looking to expand and is seeking a $10-15M Series A equity and/or debt investment that will fund infrastructure and growth. FEATURED READING We need blended capital to address racial inequities in Philadelphia’s capital access landscape Systemic capital injustices and inequities for BIPOC communities are well-documented, including but not limited to predatory
lending, implicit investment bias, and the racial wealth gap. Combining blended capital approaches and systems thinking can help address the lack of capital for underserved entrepreneurs by taking a holistic and collaborative approach to investment and support. Read ImpactPHL
